Dedan Mubangizi has urged his political rivals in Buweekula South to abandon plans of challenging his victory in the High Court and instead work with him to address service delivery gaps, as religious leaders called for peace and unity following his court-sanctioned win.
During a thanksgiving ceremony held after his victory in a vote recount, clergy from different religious denominations prayed for voters in Buweekula South to maintain peace and coexistence despite the heated electoral contest.
The ceremony was held at Mubangizi’s home in Kibuye Vuga after the Mubende Magistrate’s Court declared him winner on January 29, 2026.
Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Mwerikande, the Parish Priest of Our Lady of Fatima Mubende, urged residents to prioritise peace and avoid provoking those who supported other candidates.
“Let us not provoke those we know were not on our side, because that can cause chaos,” Rev. Fr. Mwerikande said.
He further asked Mubangizi to take personal responsibility for fostering unity in the constituency.
“I want to ask you, Dedan, to ensure that peace is upheld at the highest level and to dialogue with those who did not support you,” he said.
Rev. Danstan Bandeeba of the Anglican Church prayed for Mubangizi to serve effectively in Parliament and thanked God for the court ruling that confirmed his victory.
“Lord, we pray for your wisdom upon Dedan to enable him to shine and overperform for the benefit of Buweekula South during his tenure,” Rev. Bandeeba prayed.
“We thank God who guided the magistrate to make a fair ruling and declare Mubangizi the Member of Parliament for Buweekula South,” he added.
Sheikh Luhaga, representing the Muslim community, also praised God for the outcome of the case and prayed against any further legal challenges.
“Allah, we pray that those who intend to go to the High Court to challenge Mubangizi’s victory lose the case again, with costs,” Sheikh Luhaga said.
Addressing supporters, the Buweekula South Member of Parliament-elect pledged to improve service delivery and said his leadership would soon speak for itself.
“In only one year, nobody will be doubting Mubangizi,” he said.
He also reiterated his campaign pledge to provide farming equipment to the constituency.
“I promised you a tractor, and it will soon be in the constituency,” Mubangizi said.
He thanked voters for standing with him before and after the elections, particularly during the court process that led to the recount.
“I want to thank my people for the support you showed me before and after the elections. Many of you had lost hope until the court ordered a recount,” he said.
Mubangizi said his immediate focus would be on addressing basic service delivery challenges in the area.
“Expect water, better health services, roads, and everything running smoothly,” he said.
He also dismissed threats of a High Court appeal by his opponents, urging them instead to work with him for the benefit of residents.
“I heard that they want to disturb me by going to court, but tell them I am not ordinary. They should join me and we work together for the people of Buweekula South,” Mubangizi said.
The Member of Parliament for Kazo, Dan Kimosho, pledged to support Mubangizi during his term in Parliament.
“We are going to work for you, and whenever Dedan raises a concern for Buweekula South, I will be ready to support him,” Kimosho said.
Mubangizi was officially declared the Member of Parliament for Buweekula South by the Mubende Magistrate’s Court on January 29, 2026, following a vote recount.
